Featured Piece: The Star
"The Star" is perhaps the most famous work of art by
Edgar Degas. Degas was known for his odd choices of
perspective in his paintings, and that is very evident
with this painting. You can see Degas chose an
elevated point of view, slightly above the figure that
he was drawing. A pale violet shadow graces the top
of the dancers body, presumably from the stage lights
shining onto her, and the swift paint stroke symbolize
the movements of the dancer across the stage.
